The Ultimate Behind the Scenes: Seattle Branding Photography

Client: Samantha Slater Studio

Session Type: Standard Lifestyle Branding

Session Goals: Photos for social media and website. Sam wanted action shots of her working on jewelry pieces as well as casual lifestyle shots of her in her gorgeous studio.

Session Prep: Before booking Sam and I had a wonderful conversation about here goals and what her dream session would look like. As an artist, Sam is very keyed into every tiny detail and did a great job explaining her vision to me. We had several exchanges with videos observing the light in her studio space to determine the best time of day for the best light in the studio.
On our session day, a very HOT Seattle summer day, I arrived to find her studio space perfectly cleaned up and absolutely the most beautifully decorated functional space I’ve ever seen. Everywhere you looked it was a treat for the senses. With her shot list in mind, Sam had her work ready go in various states of ‘doneness’ to show what a work in progress looks like. Not only had Sam prepared her workspace, she had chosen her outfits, gotten her nails done (a must if you’re going to have your working hands in the photos), done her hair and make up. She also had prepared a very detailed shot list and knew what she wanted to showcase on her social media messaging and what she needed for her website. Since we were both so prepared in advance, we had time to get to every single item on her dream shot list as well as a handful of fun ideas I had to get creative and add my special touches to her photos. It was a dream to work with Sam and her gorgeous jewelry. *Side note, I met Sam at a makers market because I saw her gorgeous jewelry on instagram and I knew I had to meet her. I bought dreamy custom ring from her to celebrate the one year anniversary of opening my dream studio space North City Studio. My ring is featured in this post, can you find it?

Client Feedback:

“Let me tell you about my experience working with Megan. But before I do, let me explain some things: I am seasoned at this, I have gotten my photo taken a lot, I have styled several photoshoots and I have even shot some myself. So, I have very high expectations and standards. I also don’t mess around when it comes to being a professional. Showing up on time. Meeting deadlines. All that jazz. And let me tell you, Megan DID NOT disappoint. In fact, it is rather difficult for me to do a good job describing how great my experience was, but I will certainly try: Firstly the pre booking experience was seamless, I emailed her and we chatted about my needs, I then used her easy to navigate website to book my session. While waiting for the scheduled date I made some notes and sent her over some visual ideas as to what I was wanting from our session. On the day of, she arrived on time and got straight to work. She was very professional but also extremely kind and helpful.  For example, when shooting me in my space, she would encourage me but then also direct me, so I wasn’t sitting strangely or tilting my head at an angle where I had a double chin.  I have never had a photographer give such clear guidelines as well as encouragement.  All that being said and done the photos themselves are more than I could have dreamed of. They truly are phenomenal, she captured my space beautifully and she captured me, quite literally in my element. You can feel my energy and excitement about my work and my business through these photos. These images make the viewer want to step into my studio and take a class or make some jewelry or have some tea. She created exactly what I wanted but with a twist of her own magic and I cannot recommend her enough. 10 out of 5 stars!”
